Minister of Transport, Malaysia and Honorary Adviser to WCES

The Hon. Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai is the 10th MCA President. He is Malaysia’s Minister of Transport as well as Member of Parliament for Bentong.

Dato’ Sri Liow has a Bachelor of Science degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and an MBA from Universiti Malaya. He frst enrolled as a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) in 1981. Upon graduation, he was appointed as a Research Assistant for the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP), a think tank initiated by the MCA before being appointed as a Personal Assistant to the Deputy President of MCA. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Press Secretary to the Minister of Labour, and Political Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources.

In 1999, Dato’ Sri Liow was elected as a Member of Parliament for Bentong in the General Election. Further to that, he was elected as the MCA Youth Secretary and Chairman, before assuming the position of Vice President of MCA in 2008, Deputy President in 2010 and President in 2013.

Parliamentarian, he was a member of the Public Accounts Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Backbenchers Club and has represented the Parliament at the ASEAN Inter-Parliament Organisation (AIPO) meetings.

Dato’ Sri Liow’s political experience also extends to Ministerial roles, having been the Malaysian Minister of Health (2008-2013) and Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports (2006-2008).
