WCEF Global Business Council



The WCEF Global Business Council was launched on 25th January 2012 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Razak in Putrajaya. It was established to enhance linkages between business leaders and entrepreneurs from China, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe. This Global Business Council provides another platform for the interchange of business ideas, sharing of experiences and strengthening of relationships.

True to its name, the Global Business Council is not just for Chinese businessmen but is open to businessmen and women from any ethnic group and nationality. It seeks to promote global corporate citizenship, good governance and business ethics as well as green growth.

The Global Business Council will be led by Mr. John So, the first ethnic Chinese to be elected as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne who has gone on to serve as the longest serving Mayor of Melbourne. Members of the Council's International Advisory Panel include Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, founder & CEO of AirAsia; Tan Sri Thong Yaw Hong, Co-Chairman, Public Bank; Ambassador Zou Mingrong, Executive Vice Chairman, China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation; Ms. Pansy Wong the first Chinese to be appointed a Cabinet Minister in New Zealand; and YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Vijay Eswaran, Executive Chairman, QI Group.

ASLI is the secretariat for this new Business Council which will have chapters in China, Hong Kong, Europe, USA and Australia. Business leaders are invited to be members of the Global Business Council and to benefit from the global connectedness and the power of networking. The Global Business Council aims to be ultimately the frontrunner for the Global Chinese Diaspora and the wider international business community.
